Electric motors

An electric motor is an electromagnetic device that converts or transmits electrical energy in accordance with the law of electromagnetic induction. Motor selection should be based on shaft power; the motor rating is chosen one step above the shaft power. For example, for a shaft power of 15 kW, a motor of 18.5 kW should be selected. The number of poles also depends on the required speed of the driven equipment.

Motor bearings carry the rotor and must run reliably over long periods, so stable running accuracy and low vibration are important. Selection depends on the frame size, the load, the operating speed and the ambient conditions at the installation.
